Hummus Recipe using our Cracker tray

Today we’re sharing one of our all-time favorite recipes for garlic hummus! This easy recipe can be tailored to suite your flavor preferences and tastes way better than any store-bought hummus. The perfect healthy snack to take out by the pool, on a picnic or just to your living room. The options are endless with this hummus. It makes a great base for different varieties of hummus; all you need to do is add a few extra ingredients! Looking to spice this up? Add some jalapeños and cilantro for a spicy jalapeño hummus. Or perhaps your looking for something a little sweeter. Just add in some roasted red peppers for a smokey-sweet hummus. Any way you serve it, you’re sure to impress friends and family with this garlicy goodness!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 1 head of garlic, roasted: you can use less (or more!) depending on your love of garlic
  • 1 (15oz) can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed*
  • 2 lemons, juiced
  • 1/4  cup tahini: you can make your own (we like using Inspired Taste’s recipe) or use store bought, like we usually do!
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • Sea salt and cumin, to taste
  • 3 TSP water: this helps make your hummus extra smooth

To make:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Peel the outer, papery layer off your head of garlic. Then chop off about 1/2 an inch from the top of the head so that the individual cloves are exposed. Place the garlic on a small baking sheet, cut side up, and drizzle with olive oil. Cover garlic with aluminum foil and place in the oven to roast for about 30 minutes, or until slightly browned.
  3. In your food processor or blender, add in your tahini and lemon juice. Mix until fluffy, usually 1-2 minutes.
  4. Scrape down the sides of your mixer and add in the olive oil, sea salt and cumin. Remove the cooled cloves of garlic from their skins and add as much as you would like to the mixer. Blend for another minute.
  5. Scrape down the sides of your mixer again and add in your drained and rinsed chickpeas* Blend for 2 minutes. Add in water and blend for another minute*
  6. Serve and enjoy! We love serving our hummus in the Small Bowl from our Verona Collection with pita chips or an array of vegetables in the Cracker Tray also from our Verona Collection.

*Don’t throw away the liquid you drain from your chickpeas (which is called aquafaba)! It can be used to make a variety of delish dishes and is most often used as a substitute for egg whites. Check out The Vegan Society’s 20 Amazing things you can do with aquafaba article for some ideas on how to use yours.

*You may not be able to add all the chickpeas in at once depending on the size of your blender or food processor. If so, add the chickpeas in smaller increments and wait until blended before adding more.

*If you find your hummus is still not as smooth as you want it to be, just add more water and blend.
